  1. I mean it’s not very equivalent though, since one is self mutilation and the other is unnecessary but generally harmless discomfort which if practiced in moderation and with care won’t actually destroy your body.

It’s like comparing drinking battery acid as a cultural thing to drinking alcohol, both are bad for you and both can harm you but one is objectively worse and also has instant effects whilst also moderation or caution has no effect on preventing the damage, while the other damages much slower and can have its serious effects mitigated by moderation and caution.

  3.  @edmurks236  Well then don’t walk in heels without practice and or some caution, if you fall and break your hip because you didn’t take proper precautions or simply didn’t practice safely, it’s no-ones fault but the person who was willing to risk injury for some “sex appeal”.

I am sorry but any culture that promotes or makes tradition out of self mutilation for any reason is objectively less civilized, and corsets are nowhere near comparable to foot binding, it’s sensationalist cause even if 1% of ancient chinas population did this, a minority or majority doesn’t matter, as having it be culturally engrained is a show of obvious delusion wether because of religious, spiritualistic or ignorance based reasons or a vile cultural power structure. Sure Chinese culture and or any culture is not painted by it’s worst parts completely, but from our enlightened perspective in the modern day it’s very easy to see how civilized society has progressed and how it was once less civilized because of our lack of knowledge.

  5.  @edmurks236  like think about it, would you blame society cause a martial artist injured themselves, what about a stuntman, an actor or a dancer? They all are given money,fame and praise by the audience for performing despite the likelihood of injury but no-ones going around complaining about that, wearing heels is a performance one a person willing chooses to endure or partake in for attracting the opposite sex but it’s not a requirement or even expected.
