I noticed you said when you where young and not as informed as you are now that you thought it was a good idea to regulate speech. I applaud you for learning how important free speech is and it's importance in our lives. No one enjoys being lied to consistently and persistently. It is even worse when one has to tell a lie or worse bite their tongue from telling the truth because to speak the truth is to see them face the full force of power created by we human beings. A system of power that once was designed to defend ones right to speak truth to power now ensures one has no right to speak a truth after all it may offend sensibilities and make others uncomfortable.
