The company settled for $333 millions, the law firm take their lion share of $137 millions, left the plaintiffs with just $196 millions that the law firm kept in deposit for six month (and enjoyed the interest) before they start to give it away to the plaintiffs. On average, the plaintiffs should get $330,000 each. However there's uneven share to each of the plaintiffs. Some get just $25,000, some get $2 millions. The woman who get $5 millions in the movie said that she didn't get that much. Rumors abound that their share were based on how close they are to Erin Brockovich. And the law firm threatening to reduce the money for any plaintiffs how dare to complain. Of course, Erin herself got away with $2 millions. Plus Hollywood contract on her story. Nice.

  21.  @kaihocompany  As someone else pointed out in other comments, with the bacteria count that high, someone are bound to get sick. Are there? If not, then maybe the regulation itself are too strict. Another thing to consider, people in other comments said fermented tofu is a salty product. Maybe the salt made the bacteria dormant in the jar? That also can explain why there are no sick people.

  23. My extended family are tofu producers. AFAIK, waste water from tofu production is a headache. It needs a whole lot of water to produce tofu, and most of it will become waste water at the end of production. Even a small production facility will need an Olympic swimming pool size of water treatment before the waste water of the day can be funneled into sewage. So I can relate with Liu Ma Kee decision to import the tofu from other place where regulation is not as strict as Hong Kong. However, they should not just blindly trusting the supplier. They needed to audit the supplier from time to time to make sure the tofu weren't contaminated with nasty stuffs.
