They dropped the "Don't" part.

The thing is, startups need venture capitals. And they will invite as many venture capitals they can get. That created buzz, and then everybody wanted to take a shot.

If something sounds too good to be true, usually it is.

And the Atlas shrugged ...

You are ignorant or outright lying about the composition of Palestinian population. 90% of what we know as Palestinians today are either immigrants or descendants of immigrants that imported by Arab nations into the land that we know as Israel today. And they were not imported BEFORE the founding of the state of Israel, instead they were imported AFTER Arab nations invasion in 1947 failed to destroy Israel. The situation is as stupid as if African immigrants claim Sweden as their birthright and want to oust native Swedes.

@Low_commotion When there is a new thing that promise something wonderful, people like to attach their hopes onto it, realistic or not. Richard Feynman told a story about the early days of nuclear research where army brass contact him about the possibility to turn sands into nuclear fuel. Another example, recently we have "quantum" hype, where every crackpots in the wild slap "quantum" label to everything they want to sell. Weird, the masses seem to eat it up and cry for more.

A micrometeor can shift the laser to a populated area. While the laser won't burn things (it's too disperse), it still can cause blindness to anyone who look up the sky at that moment.

@GabrieleNunnari My skeptic sense is tingling. For one, radiation is the worse method of transferring heat. And second, they want to expel heat to space, as in through hundred of kilometer of atmosphere. Unless they have a device that can convert heat into ultra violet laser, then shoot that laser to space, I would say it's just a scam.

@xenod1066 Which certain bandwidth? Stop with mumbo jumbo, and show me the scientific literatures.
1
@xenod1066 So it's on the extreme ultraviolet range? Now, do you believe the device in that video can generate that? Has anybody check if it actually radiated ultraviolet? All I can deduct from the appearance of the device, it radiated infrared instead. I can be wrong, but the scam alarm ringing loudly inside my head. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@xenod1066 OK, Karen.

Laser is not a good fit with wireless devices. Laser goes from point to point, while for any wireless devices, mobility is a must. A laser charger will have to detect and realign with such devices in real time, which can't be done easily (hence expensively).
1
pretty sure cable can handle that more efficiently ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

There will be thousands of miles between downstream of Mississippi and California. And a lot of up and down in elevation between them.

A 20x20 feet home built on an acre of land is a cruel joke.

Laser beam will disperse, which will require more towers than cables. And don't forget that a bird (and a cat hunting it) can cause the laser to lose their target. That rogue laser may set fire on something or hit somebody's eyes.
1
@martythemartian99 I'm talking about the muzzle of the beam. If a bird perch on it, it will vibrate, however small. And if that bird shit on the lens, there goes your laser. Don't forget that winds also sway the pole. Yes, it will be small sway, but over some distance it will misalign the laser. Same thing with a heavy truck passing by. Bottom line is, laser is vulnerable to disruption. And of course, cats will go wherever birds go. Cats are assholes.

The late Hans Rosling already said about it from 1990s. You can watch his TED talk.

Sooo .. it's women fault. We must make their lives miserable for the survival of our species! don't kill me ....
1
Then why use laser in the first place? Just put a big lens with focus on somewhere on earth.😅 What you need is a stop gap to re-laser the beam. But that will need an array of them circling the planet. That of course decrease the amount of energy transfer. Which shall be compensated by a larger installed collectors.

Forget airplane. What if you look up the sky and zap! you are blind now.

The glory of monopoly on clear display. Congratulation!

It will be useful in space travels. (looking at Elon Musk)
1
Laser spread too. Which means you have to build laser repeater which is much more expensive than a pole for cable.
