About 20 years ago in my country, a 737-300 lost their navigation and communication (according to national transportation safety board, both device was malfunctioned) in the middle of sea. The pilot decided to turn to the right which according to map, land should be somewhere to the right. But they could only guessed since they had no devices to measure how much degree they were turning. Their only hope was they could spot a land then try to figure from the land features to guess where they were at. They ended up landing on small airport around 800 kilometer away from their origin and destination.

So .... girlboss FAFO?

@Tyler-z8r It's a good practice when you are adventuring away from civilization to equip yourself with redundancy. GPS can stop working because of solar flare or nuclear explosion in space. If that happens, you'll be glad if you have navigational equipment from the age of sails, even if it's crude and unwieldy.

@izzieb I read somewhere that GPS doesn't just use signal from three satellites at once but ten of them. A few more satellites for redundancy and error correction.

She used wrong aircraft. She could use amphibious aircraft if she's to cross ocean. Just saying.

FAA was in its infancy. Perhaps such procedure was not regulated back then.

@sirridesalot6652 The video said the airplane was damaged by storm and she had to emergency landed on Ireland.

Telegraph messages were expensive at the time.

@StephenFlynn-xl2fw Well, he's ignorant, at least. He used pony instead of husky to haul him and his supplies across Antarctic. Amundsen used husky, and he reached the target sooner even when he started later than Scott.

@raa9756 Because women are not insects to begin with. .. .. .. .. .. .. don't kill me .... 😨

So, it's a story of girl boss FAFO. 😌

@hurstiwursti If there's nuclear explosion on space, we on the surface have high chances to survive. And we may want to go to somewhere safer, maybe bunker in some remote place. But dang, GPS gives nonsensical coordinates. Sextant then.

@catocall7323 And the shaking of engine also kept the measurements running all the place.😅

@catocall7323 The danger of nuclear explosion in space is in electromagnetic radiation, of which the satellites (GPS and others) are very vulnerable. For example, China currently has plan to detonate nuclear in space in the event of war with USA to knock down USA's GPS satellites. It will disrupts the function of many USA armaments (JDAM, ICBM, ..). That's why I listed nuclear explosions along with solar flares as things that can make GPS give nonsensical coordinates.

@hurstiwursti America is big, like big big. Even if both side fire all their nuclear arsenal, if you are in wilderness, chances are you won't be killed by nuclear explosion (btw, nuclear fallout and nuclear winter may kill you, but those are another discussion). And if you are in wilderness, with GPS not working, you may have to resort to compass .. and sextant ... if you bring one ... and know how to use it.

@catocall7323 I don't know why, but it seem youtube delete my reply 🤔 Nuclear explosion in space is directed to satellites (GPS and others). It creates strong electromagnetic radiation which will fry the electric circuits inside satellites.

@youteubakount4449 True. But it accumulates to the final tally.

@angelachouinard4581 The country is Indonesia. The airplane was Adam Air. They've been dissolved a few years later because of repeated "mistakes", some of which claimed hundreds of lives, which made most customers to stay away from them. They are the case study of How Not To Run An Airline.
