Comments by "Gorilla Disco" (@gorilladisco9108) on "Could Brazil take French Guiana from France if it wanted to? (2020)" video.
Do you really want Falkland War 2.0? Because that's how you'll get Falkland War 2.0.

@Multi407D Compared to UK, France armed forces are more active. They are more ready to go to war than their British neighbor.
3
@Multi407D The reason Argentina dared to invade Falkland was because the same thinking .. that UK won't be able to fight a strong regional power. While UK may be ready to combat Soviet Union, they were mostly just training. French on the other hand, are busy deploying their troops here and there in Africa. A week in real combat is far more valuable than a year of training. Whatever power France can project will be enough.
3
And tip the defenders? Brazil only chance is to surprise France, because in the long run France will maul them. France is one of the world foremost power, while Brazil is more regional power.

@clakkent8862 How do you figure there will be 10% casualties? Foreign Legion is special forces. You won't inflict 10% casualties on that kind of army without sending in overwhelming force, which Brazil is lack in capacity.
2
@shoego What army? Watch the video again. Brazil lack the capacity to send in troops into Guiana. At most they can send in 1000 a day. Those 2 regiments of Foreign Legion will eat them, 1000 troops for their daily diet.
2
Is Brazil getting richer? Google said Brazil lost 40% of its GDP between 2010-2019. While French is not spectacular, at least their GDP is stable during those years.
2
@v1n1c1u55anto5 Just google it before you embarrass yourself any further.
2
@Simoky99 It's may as well be an island, since there are almost no roads between Brazil and Guiana (2:50). Brazil invasion by land will be a trickle and give France ample time to send their (better equipped) troops to Guiana.

The only war they can get is war of mouths.

Romania #1 Technology has far advanced since Vietnam War. Aside for the western baizuos, there is nothing can help Brazil (or Vietnam) if they try to trigger France (or America).
1
@vivelafrance3080 Right? Also, satellites today can see soldiers under trees. Iraq found it the hard way when their tanks were bombed from the sky while they thought they were safe by hiding under shades.
1
Romania #1 Sign of a troll : use insult to support convoluted logic.
1
@Apimenta010 Thick rainforest .. well, your mindset is still in the 1970s, while the US had already used them successfully in 2003 against Iraq. The satellites used infrared to detect tanks hiding under building. Trees are flimsy cover compared to concrete.
1
@Apimenta010 It does not matter how thick the rainforest is. The infrared detectors can see under buildings, to see under trees is a walk in the park.

@tallest4eva As the video explain, while Brazil is next door to Guiana, they cannot move their army in sufficient number to Guiana because there is almost no roads. Other option is either send them by sea or by air. But Brazil air transport also too small. They can do it initially, but to defend it from counter attack, air transport won't be enough. So it will be navy vs navy in the end.
1
@shoego If Brazil starts to move their army near Guiana border, won't that alert France? It will give them time to put a better defense on Cayenne airport. With that secured, France will be able to easily bomb advancing Brazil army over the jungle.
1
Financial Jungle @João T_ Really. All you guys need to do is to enter "Brazil GDP" to Google, and it will give you the graph of Brazil GDP over the year. 2010 is its high point, and everything went downhill from there.
1
Financial Jungle Yes. Google. Oh, you are welcome to present your "correct data" on Brazil GDP. That is, if you can. Because stock market index is NOT GDP.
1
@clakkent8862 What do you want to do with those 210 million people? Create massive human wave at throw them to meat grinder? That kind of thinking is obsolete by 1980s after China got their nose bloodied by Vietnam. That's why they are modernizing their armed forces, and they found out that it is very expensive, which means GDP is crucial. Not the population size, but GDP. Of which, France has advantage over Brazil.
