  2. Both side were power hungry, it's just the matter of who's better at it. For comparison, Chiang Kai Sek also killed hundreds of thousands of Chinese when he destroyed a dam to slow down Japanese army. And if the communists didn't stop him, he might start a new war to conquer Japan. Not that the communists were good boys, they invaded Tibet not long after.
