@johnhenderson1222 China can make engines. They had to, because their economic disconnect with the west (and USSR after Khrushchev) in Cold War era. But mostly, they copied the engine from USSR. That's why their cheap cars perform so bad, those cars were built with Soviet's 1950 technology. Only recently they managed to steal car making technologies (especially from Japan) to make their more modern cars. Even then, how to make some of car components are still a mystery for them. And Germany has a big business in exporting those components to China. Electric car is another matter. It's still in infancy, so a lot of improvement can be invented. And with China entering the competition early on, China can have their own share of inventions.

You are on point. My experience with China made vehicles confirm it. If you put other countries car outside under rain and sun light, it will start to rust within a year. If you keep China car inside garage, it will rust all over within a month.

Reminds me of Frasier in tv series Cheers when he gave tip of 100,000 liras to a bellboy. "Lira is very cheap", he claimed, but that sum converted to around USD 100. No wonder he soon found himself surrounded by excited bellboys.
