  1. Iceland is lucky that its ally is USA. If its ally was Soviet Union, they would got annexed before long.

  2.  @АгронДепартье  Eastern block countries (Poland, Hungary etc.) were either too far or protected (recognized) by international treaty or under China sphere of power. Soviet Union annexed Ukraine, the -stans, Baltic states, etc. which were breakaway from old Russian empire. They even tried (and failed) to annex Finland. And Iceland as a breakaway land from Norway (and close to Soviet Union territory) was a free real estate if USA didn't say they were protected.
