@matsal3211 What? Hoover did everything since day one. Nothing Roosevelt did that Hoover didn't do. Hoover longed for that day to come where he proved that government intervention could stop economic downturn on its track. When that day came, he would be ready, he would went full speed ahead with his "do something" plan right away. The reason people said he "didn't do enough" was because toward the end of his presidential term he got epiphany that after all of his "do something" with the ballooning budget, the depression seemed to linger. He started to reel back some of his "do something". Maybe because he felt something was wrong with his "do something". That's where Roosevelt came with accusation that Hoover "didn't do enough", and then quadruple Hoover budget. He made the depression GREAT.

Roosevelt made it great (worse) by, as you said, prolonged it. And also by spending hell lot more each year than Hoover. Hoover on his part, tried to repeal his stupid fight against economy downturn, which opened him to Roosevelt attack that "Hoover didn't do enough." The end of great depression was not at the end of WW2. It ended after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. The industrial leaders complained to Roosevelt that they couldn't met the production target in New Deal environment, and miracle happened, Roosevelt capitulated to their demands. Perhaps he feared to lose the war.

Hoover created the depression, Roosevelt made it great. Stock market crashed from time to time, but the problem usually over within six month. It was Hoover big government that made it linger for four years up to the next election. Then Roosevelt came and asked for even bigger government, thus made the depression great. Big government is the brainchild of Hoover. And it cursed USA up to today.

@darthgrievous3678 Went down how? After Roosevelt spent a lot of money, it only went down the same way Soviet Union made sure zero unemployment, by doing things inefficiently so it would needed more people for each job. And what would happened when the government run out of money?

@darthgrievous3678 20 millions jobs created out of 20 millions jobs lost is not an advancement, especially when he burned billions of taxpayer's money to have it. Without New Deal, those 20 millions jobs would be created naturally anyway, and no taxpayer money needed to be burned. "America can't run out of money bc we have own currency." Yeah, that's what Mugabe thought too.

@WhnPgsFl Nope. Massive government spending didn't end the great depression. It prolonged a simple one year depression into a decade long great depression. Great depression was ended because, with the coming war, Roosevelt had a dilemma. Either he spent more money which would created massive debt and damaged US economy just as the war damaged Britain ability to hold its empire, or cave to US industries demand to dismantle New Deal. And Roosevelt was cunning enough to spin it to bring the end of his New Deal nonsense without causing him to lose political points.

@WhnPgsFl Didn't I (and the video) already explain that? Facing war with Japan, Roosevelt had two choices, either continue the New Deal and damaging US economy in the process (by excessively printing money to fund both war and New Deal) or end the New Deal (as US industries demanded). He chose the later. And since the New Deal was what made the depression lingered so long and became great, with the New Deal gone, the depression followed shortly.

Since all Democratic losses took place in the North and the West, and particularly in states like Ohio and Pennsylvania, southerners held a much stronger position. The House contained 169 non-southern Democrats, 93 southern Democrats, 169 Republicans, and 4 third-party representatives. For the first time, Roosevelt could not form a majority without the help of some southerners or Republicans. In addition, the president had to contend with several senators who, having successfully resisted the purge, no longer owed him anything. Most observers agreed, therefore, that the president could at best hope to consolidate, but certainly not to extend, the New Deal. James Farley thought that Roosevelt's wisest course would be "to clean up odds and ends, tighten up and improve things [he] already has but not try [to] start anything new." In any event, Farley predicted that Congress would discard much of Roosevelt's program.

@WhnPgsFl The major ones were WPA, CCC, and NYA. Congress also cut taxes after WW2 and replaced laws that create confusion which in turn became disincentive to start business.

@WhnPgsFl Yeah? You think making and shutting down a law as a speedy process? You can turn it on and off at a whim? Grow up. Truman didn't try to resurrect them because even after the conscript returned, the employment still under 10%. And that happened without any huge government spending to employ them.

@WhnPgsFl Do you ever read books about criticism to New Deal? You sound that you read one side and call the day. Try to read some more, listen to their arguments. Try to read, "New Deal or Raw Deal?", " America's Great Depression", or "FDR's Folly: How Roosevelt and His New Deal Prolonged the Great Depression" for some short list.

He was the cause of depression. Stock market crash happened from time to time. It usually resolved within six month without government intervention. But then Hoover decided to intervene, and it lingered on until his next election. Then Roosevelt came and intervened even more, which made the depression great. He shouldn't intervened. He shouldn't fought it. It's not his job. It's not what he's paid for. Had he sat on his hand the entire six month since the stock market crash, there wouldn't be any depression.

@Ajourneyofknowing Americans were more likely advanced from poor to rich in the 1920s than in the 2020s. And you can trace the root cause of that from New Deal. It concentrated economy in the hand of few elites.
