@charlizet4314 Umm ... Malaysian and Singaporean government did that without colonizing other countries. On the other hand, China has been colonizing other countries. Tibet, Uighur, (Inner) Mongolia, Manchuria, you name it.

As much as I admire Cruz, this is a low from him.

@LhJeB74 Of course not, because Tiktok open business in USA, under USA law. In China though, Douyin is heavily censored, because it open business in China, under China law.
2
@zjeee Then ask him about the company, not about something that he has nothing to do with.
2
China already did. They banned iPhone and Tesla on most of places in China.
2
It's the same. But different. But it's still the same.

@footlessbird1998 And your point is?

The case is different. Huawei was banned for government officials. And I think Tiktok is already get the same treatment. But what being debated in the Congress is about Tiktok usage for general public.

@dinodenodano To ban it will amount to violation of constitution.

@byaw13 He can't do anything about it. China actively and constantly censoring Douyin contents while Tiktok cannot do that in the US because of 1st amendment and section 230 of the communications decency act. Blaming him will do nothing toward the imbalance of good vs terrible contents in Tiktok. As 1st amendment goes, you can only suppress terrible contents with tons of good contents, not to censor it right away.

@tootallno He's not real US citizen just as Obama is not real US citizen. LOL.
1
@terro3842 What can he do about it? China actively and constantly censor Tiktok contents, while Tiktok cannot censor its contents in the US because that will be 1st amendment violation and open them to lawsuit under section 230 of the communications decency act. US contents are terrible because that's the consequences of free speech. As 1st amendment goes, you can only suppress terrible contents with tons of good contents, not to censor it right away.

LOL. Right? Americans go with the theory, "Them Asian, them look the same".

In my opinion, that Tiktok carries terrible videos in the USA is the consequence of freedom of speech. The Congress should not compare them with Tiktok videos in China, where they're constantly censoring the terrible videos. There's nothing can be done except Congress forces Tiktok to censor their videos in the USA as well. But that will be a violation to 1st amendment. Do you really want to do that? And it's stupid for Cruz to ask about what happened in Tiananmen Square to a ... Singaporean. Note to Congressman (and Americans in general), if a Chinese person bears the name "Chew", he's more likely come from Malaysia or Singapore. To berate him of what mainland China did, is a very stupid thing. We may be look the same to you, but we have radically very different opinion than brainwashed mainland Chinese. You can see that Mr. Chew didn't have any reserve to say there's a massacre there on 1989. No Chinese outside mainlanders will have any objection to say it is what it is. I admire Cruz, but it's a very very stupid for him to ask that, as if he will score a point (facepalm).
