Reza Aslan said FGM is an African issue. It's not a 'African issue', it occurs globally and in Muslim communities, so how can Reza Aslan's comment be considered mostly true when in fact it is totally false?

It's as if they're suffering from amnesia and have forgotten everything about they learned about the scientific method. I used to be a regular viewer but no longer. I'm shocked.

I see the same old SJW bigotry, dishonesty and diversionary tactics at work here. Apparently it's fine to criticize Christianity but the SJW must switch to apologist mode when Islam is the target. I see the usual bias and distortion of facts including a gross misrepresentation of Sam Harris's views on a number of issues. There's a huge difference between Christianity and Islam. One doesn't need not be an expert to identify those differences and understand their implications. The relevant information is readily available. Ignorance is no longer an excuse but willful ignorance still seems to be a problem.

Ronin Dave It's difficult to accept a two-state solution when you have been the rightful owner of the land and have been kicked around and persecuted for 2500 years.

+Gussie Jives "If Islam as a whole is so oppressive, why would gay people still adhere to it?"... Fear of hell could be a reason!

Ronin Dave You could have instead mentioned the fall of Jerusalem to the Babylonians in the 6th century BC or the fall of Jerusalem to the Romans in the 1st century. I detect a bias. No, I am referring to a connection between a people, a culture, a religion and a land which extends back in time for millennia.

+Keith Parker "Aslan has some knowledge and experience of religion"... Since when was knowledge and experience of religion the road to truth? I mean, the so called experts on Islam are not in agreement and the so called experts on Christianity are not in agreement. The so called 'holy texts' from both religions are contradictory and/or ambiguous and present mutually exclusive beliefs. And all this allegedly originating from the same god. It's a ludicrous mess.

+MrChristopherGuest Harris has not suggested that we need to go to war with 1.5 billion people, torture them and drop nuclear bombs on them. Where did you get that idea from? You obviously haven't listened carefully to Harris on these issues or his numerous clarifications. It's fine to disagree with someone or present an opposing argument but straw-manning achieves nothing except embarrassing oneself.

***** It is tough for Sam being misunderstood all the time. He has said so himself. He spends a lot of time and effort trying to correct misunderstandings and he finds it all rather tiresome. I've never had a problem understanding him but many people do.
1
Ronin Dave Fair enough but the point I am making is simply that the 'Jewish' claims and connections to the land go way back into ancient history and yet most people are fixated over what happened in the 20th century, which is like yesterday from a Jewish perspective. Then we have Islam, a major complicating factor. I don't see any workable solution sadly.

Ronin Dave The Dome of the Rock might be great architecture but I would rather it wasn't there.

The question about speaking English was obviously sarcasm in response to the guys apparent inability to understand simple words. Did you notice?

That's what got me interested. They were correct on that issue if the facts are as they portray them. The college went woke and worse. But the wheels fell off sometime in 2020 when Bret went all conspiratorial.
1
I used to be an avid follower of Dave until I noticed he was much like a cracked record. Same old libertarian lines over and over even when their application is clearly nonsensical, like during a pandemic response. I admire him for seeing through the idiocy of wokeness but that's about all.

My body my choice is a terrible argument. It's not even logical in an abortion context.

Sam Harris is spot on. Sam has always been nuanced. People simply missunderstand him when he does those thought experiments, as you have done on the torture topic. He was correct on Islam and he's been critiquing religion for decades. And he doesn't say Muslims are dangerous. Wrong again. He says bad ideas are dangerous. You are both bashing Sam while having no idea what he's doing. I'll give you a clue... there's more substance in Sam's podcasts than what I just saw here. But back to Bret, I find it incredibly shocking and sad the way Bret has seemingly abandoned science and instead, appears to be promoting far right bullshit. I was a long time fan of the Dark Horse podcast until the bullshit started. Unfortunately, the far right care not about evidence. Especially on pandemic issues where it's all about ignoring science in favour of anecdote or worse.

I think the whole IDW thing has fallen apart. The former 'members' even squabbling over issues.

I was a fan for a time.

Why does the left believe government can solve everything? They're just politicians.
1
@Jmz876 If morals come from an all powerful judgemental god then they're not actually morals, they're laws. Morals are subjective.

De-growthing isn't going to happen, at least no where near enough of it to solve global warming. We have to transition to alternate energy sources and adopt more efficient energy usage. No one wants to go back to th 19th century. The caller is a confused utopian. Does he have any idea how much it would cost to replace private cares with public transit. LOL That's assuming it's physically possible. It's not where I live. There are a few things that should be done like reducing meat consumption but there are very few quick fixes.

Islam is not a race in spite of your half backed attempt at proving it is. Conservative 'dogma' does not deny that Islam is a religion but anyone with even half a clue knows that Islam is not just a religion. It's a whole lot more than a religion and that 'whole lot more' part is the problem. A very big problem potentially. But Left-wing dogma says Islam is a race and a religion. Explain that how that works.
1
If you hate Islam then you'll be called a racist, a bigot and an Islamophobia. That's what they call me since they're too dumb to understand what Islam is.
1
Wish it was a post woke world. I guess dreams are free. But the comment about Dave's marriage being nullified was dumb. A woke world is not a prerequiste for gay marriage, just a common sense world would do. You need to be a little more nuanced.

Funny how the pro-abortion folk blather on and on about "my body" but conveniently forget to mention the unborn baby's body.
1
Left-wing idiots getting it wrong again. Hilarious stuff. Islam is not a race, right? Got it? Realize that the push-back against Islam has nothing to do with race. Blind Freddy has figured it out. See if you can. In my opinion, the 'Muslim' ban should be extended to cover more countries.
1
Spot on.
1
Then why don't you leave? That's if you can find a better country. It will be a short list.
