  1. Right out of the gate your guest (perhaps inadvertently) muddies the water a little on what the US goal is in Ukraine. Yes, the US wants to weaken Russia, but "weakening Russia" and "expelling Russia from Ukraine" are not mutually exclusive goals. I've heard this kind of argument many times. I feel it's somewhat disingenuous. Both are good goals. There could be any number of goals, all possible simultaneously or overlapping etc.

  2. Thatcher may well have been a hard women but what would she do against Russia? Well, she would have to consider the realities on the ground as current leaders do. There would still be pootin and to deal will. There would still be nuclear threats to consider and the realisation that Russia has gone mad would still exist.
