  1. Russia in 2022 was flush with cash and feeling confident and aggressive. China is in the opposite position with a struggling ecomomy. China's only hope is to trade its way out of that hole, and it needs a stable and prosperous global economy to do that. Additionally, China now knows how the West will react should it start its own war, and with China already being on the back foot financially, it would likely be reticent to make Putin's mistakes.
