  2. I've been expecting this and warning against it for months. This is the reason why I've consistently argued against trying for total elimination. The new normal needs to be a strategy which includes keeping the reproduction rate below 1. This way, knee-jerk reactions would be unnecessary and breakouts would be self limiting. Added to that, more stringent protocols to protect the most vulnerable parts of the community, especially aged care and quarantine practices are required. Mandatory wearing of masks would have be one of the components. This has already proven successful in countries where it has been implemented. Total elimination is a fools errand.

  3.  @caintindal1671  Correct. I believe NSW needs to mandate mask wearing immediately. It has been the single most effective strategy in Melbourne over the past month. The stage 4 effect hasn't even shown up in test results yet. NSW is like Melbourne 2 months ago before cases spiked.
