The R values you quote must be incorrect? An R value less than 1.0 will die out on it's own by definition I believe? The true unimpeded R value of the wild variant is probably around 2.0. The new ones could be nearer 3.0. No one really knows for sure because human behaviour changes and adapts.

@Barbaryotaku The ban accomplished a lot. No one gets into my country without a two week quarantine. We have approximately zero cases.

@pimpgreen8989 It puzzles me why the UK didn't control its borders. As you say, it's a bunch of islands, as is NZ and Australia.

@MarcosElMalo2 Curious, why can't the states manage vaccinations without requiring federal intervention? They must surelly have systems already set up for such things?

@lpdude2005 Short of getting a blood test, there's no way to know. I eat a balanced diet but discovered my D level was extremely low. Nor routinely take vitamin D. And it's not just about diet. Time in the sun counts and I'm never in the sun.

@lpdude2005 You're correct but it shouldn't be a choice between one or the other. Both vitimin D and vaccines provide benefit but they work in entirely different ways. The vaccines are of course specific to SARS-cov-2 so there is no substitute.

@OceanFrontVilla3 Vaccines work whether or not you work for big pharma. The viruses don't care. We'll be getting the AZ vaccine free of charge, manufactured locally at cost.
