  2. First of all, how do you know all of that. I have a University degree in mathematics and Ive not seen anything like this. And second of all, only one dimension is provided. We don't know the outer shape nor the height, right? That's why I was stumped. Sadly, I don't understand how your working relates to the problem. Mirroring the drawing just doubles the areas.

  3. It's always better to show full wotking otherwise folk will be left scratching their heads while trying to figure out the missing steps. This was always a problem in mathematics classes... teachers skipping steps and thereby leaving students confused.

  4. The problem is that we're only given the diameter of the larger semicircle. The small one is an unknown, and I could see no way of determining it.
