Maybe Trump was right? Just a thought.

Sorry but I lost interest as soon as your guest made the unsubstantiated claim that we're nothing but chemical systems. Absence of evidence is NOT evidence of absence. There is a huge collection of work suggesting that our world and life might be more complex than just chemistry. There are still very many unknowns, so best not make claims about them.

@mostbased If IQ can be measured (and it can) then it's objective. The IQ discussion is not for people who value feelings over facts.
31
I'm shocked that anyone would spend $2400 for the service?
26
Not sure whether you've ever contemplated suicide... it's a pretty dark and heavy state of mind. I know that place. Finding the right direction to walk is not always possible.
20
The reason for the talk about nuclear weapons is because Putin made the threat. It's that simple.
19
Not sure about Ben Shapiro but Lex was right. His guest by contrast seemed to be pro Palestine which strikes me as kind of bizzare!
19
"America Bad" pretty much summarises Chomsky's world view.
19
His answers were good.
16
He's a complete clown on geopolitical issues in my opinion. Everything is framed by his hard left bias which obviously makes his opinions next to worthless. Obviously I don't agree with him.
14
It may feel a little left leaning to those on the right, but that's only because the left's position is more often correct than on the right, hence those on the right are more likely to dissagree with Wikipedia content.

So a house will lose all of its value over 100 years. Doesn't sound so bad until you realise how property usually appreciates exponentially over 100 years. That's huge and it won't be gradual. Most likely, areas near water will literally crash at some point when it becomes clear that the land is about to become unusable and uninsurable. Like places where eroding cliff faces fall away and the owners lose everything. Sorry, but Ben's take on this is nonsensical.

The second quotation is a gross misrepresentation of the situation.

@Fizzbuzzbizzfuzz2 The limitation is that batteries are never going to come close the the energy density of aviation fuel. No where near. That's going to limit electric planes to a niche market. Don't ever expect to see battery powered wide body jets.
7
It's still fundamentally about hunting for food, shelter and clothing. Money is just a more efficient means of exchange than bartering.
6
Perhaps he already knew the answers would be predictably nonsensical?
6
There is a biological basis. How else would you explain the obvious physical differences between peoples... Japanese, Scottish, African, Chinese etc? It's obvious without looking for 'proof'. Even the brain is physical. Why is there a difference between human brains, dog's brains and cat's brains in terms of intellect? The difference has to be genetic.
5
I doubt it.
5
I guess that's why there are always error bars in any survey result, right? People like you stuff them up 😀
5
Same. I take low doses for short periods without any problems.
5
I don't see how capitalism does that? I just see capitalism as a wealth creation process. It's up to the individule to decide what to do with it. One could take a selfish approach or not. Religion and/or the search for meaning in life has little to do with capitalism, nor socialism. I believe religion is something else entirely. It's more about fear and power.
5
Ignore the negative waffling.
5
My most disappointing guest so far and that's even before listening.
4
@sthubbins4038 That quote means nothing. You know they're just throwaway lines. Never take any of them literally.
4
No it's real and you'll have to face it eventually.
4
@vaclavcervinka65 How is it related to the lack of a belief in mythical entities?
4
You're reading way too much into normal ways of speaking.
4
It would be understandable.

I've taken many IQ tests throughout my lifetime (now 60's) and my IQ has stayed pretty consistent. Nothing ambiguous about it. It also correlates well with the type of work I do and my school grades etc. I also grew up in a dysfunctional relatively poor family environment, perhaps even psychologically abusive - a very unhappy childhood. But I excelled at maths, physics and other abstract activities. It all correlates.
4
Yeah, I'm the dumbass who can't throw a ball, can't kick a ball, can't swim etc. but was top of my grade at maths and physics and have been a software developer for 30 years. While other kids were out in the park kicking balls around, I was reading science books. Most sport just bored me to tears. That said, I discovered roller skating in the 70's and loved it. Got hooked but I wasn't a natural. Took me years to learn what others picked up in months.
4
Both?
4
@diegoolivarez1 Probably not what you're insinuating it was. Nuance is always required.
3
A lot of humans are horrifying The older I get the less I like people after a lifetime of being treated badly by them.
3
@royromano9792 AI is over hyped. It's not going to eliminate the need to work.
3
Yes, in some cases but simply impossible others. For instance, it would be impossible to eliminate automobiles in my city. The cost alone would be prohibitive. But even if it were made possible by some miracle, an automobile provides advantages that public transport never can... like privacy, convenience, cleanliness, security, punctuality... etc.
3
@phart0102 Sometimes.
3
How would you judge "waste"? Is there a good metric for its measurement?
3
This is fantastic. So much better than wokeism.
3
No one is forcing you to donate, right? So, what's your beef with it. I use it a lot. It's an excellent source.
3
@stumble_leiner Why don't you just explain what you mean instead of talking in riddles?
3
I agree. That was my experience, but get ready for the materialists to weigh in.
3
@obzai I believe you're correct on the muscle mass point. I was the skinniest kid in my class and no amount of effort ever changed that. I tried weight training (which bored me almost to death) but to no avail. I'm still skinny at age 60. My father was the same. Just naturally skinny.
3
I guess if you find them useless then don't bother with them. I find them interesting.
2
@smartgenes1 It totally irrational.
2
Conversion to what?
2
Wow, what a wonderfully informative and balanced comment.
2
What does that statement prove? Nothing. But I have heard it parroted ad nauseam by ill informed climate change deniers.
2
Sam was right on the Covid stuff. He lost me way before Covid on the Trump stuff. Some time around 2016.
2
We were given our scores. And our IQ test results played a significant role in determining which class we would be placed in. The highest went into 'A'. The next 'B' etc. down to 'G'. Makes perfect sense.
2
I like playing chess as an intellectual challenge but I don't like playing against other players. I'm non competitive by nature. My main passion is computer chess. Playing against computers and developing chess engines. Computer programming and AI techniques in particular have always held a fascination.
