  3. I like playing chess as an intellectual challenge but I don't like playing against other players. I'm non competitive by nature. My main passion is computer chess. Playing against computers and developing chess engines. Computer programming and AI techniques in particular have always held a fascination.

  4. I'm pretty sure those video games you refer to will be long gone and forgotten in a decade or two but chess will remain. It's also a case of personal preference. Some people prefer chess. As for 1990... what's the relevance? Chess has been played for 1000 years.
