Really? I'm 64 and have no problems at all, nor do any of my colleagues who're also in their 60s and even 70s. People don't suddenly become senile at age 50.

Trying too hard? They're valid points. The whole AI thing is being massively over-hyped. Advancements in AI have been over promised for decades. It's always a decade away. It was like that 25 years ago as an AI undergraduate. Yes, we might be on a path to AGI (assuming AGI is even achievable) but how long is that path? A decade? A century?

@goldwhitedragon I think you're right. And time becomes more valuable as one ages because there's less of it remaining. Wasting time keeping up with a never-ending cycle tech advances becomes less desirable. I'm at that point now. How many more times should I train myself on some tech that will be obsolete tomorrow or next year.

@robadkerson Not really. I don't belie AI will ever be able to "understand". Nothing to do with "human exceptionalism". I suspect cats and dogs "understand" quite a lot. I doubt AI will never have that type of conscious understanding. It's a pipe dream. The type of computation at the core of AI now is still "clock-work".

@alanmeeker2179 Some people prefer echo chambers and/or believe disagreement is a flaw.

@eSKAone- It's all pure speculation. We really have no clue about how the biological brain really works.

Is AGI possible in a deterministic machine? Too much hype in my opinion. I don't believe the human ability brain can be duplicated by a gpu farm.

The phrase "do your own research" doesn't mean having to become an expert and/or do original research, set up ones own biolab or such like. Sam should know that, so why is he laboring the point?
