  1. This whole "OMG AI" is a massive overreaction in my opinion. People were doing the same kind of fearmongering about computers around 40+ years ago. Then we had the Y2K bug when the world was going to crash LOL. Some of my friends and family were terrified and no end of comforting would calm them. People filled their bath tubs with water in case the gravity feed would fail at midnight etc. AGI is Y2K all over again, and again, it's just a software issue.

  2. I don't see any problem with AGI. At least no more of a problem than we already have. We already have the ability to destroy life as we know it. We already have misinformation at levels we cannot control and at levels that have already destroyed our trust in what we read online, for instance. I already don't trust anything I read without cross-checking it. People are our biggest problem. Additionally, I don't believe AGI is conscious or intelligent. In a sense, it's all smoke and mirrors... a "clever" database. And here, the Turing test doesn't help either. So. it seems intelligent because it can converse in a human like way... yeah, that's clever stuff from a technical standpoint, but so what?

  3. I agree. You're spot on. As it stands currently, it's just a "clever" front end for a search algorthm.
