  1. Yes, the idea of a peace deal is nonsensical. Russia started the war and wants it to continue. Only Russia can choose to end the war. Ukraine's only real option is to keep fighting. I've always felt this way, but your extra point that Russia considers the four Ukrainian oblasts to be Russian territory makes a peace deal even less likely.
