  14.  @brettvogel8418  Not really. There is a cost to production and the selling price is not fully under the producers control. That's more clearly seen with oil... if oil costs $40 to produce then there's no money in it if it sells for $40. Right now Russia's margin has fallen to around $30 a barrel on falling volumes and that's not factoring in discounts to get around sanctions. So it's not always about energy companies. But if you believe profits are too high then buy stocks.

  16. Not really. Interest is not usury necessarily. It make no sense to be able to use other people's money at no cost. We were close to that recently with rates close to zero and that's caused massive problems.

  38. New Zealand has moved so far to the left it's scary and that's one of the reasons I packed up and left 20 years ago. That and racism. Too much Pakeha vs Maori BS. That said, NZ handled the pandemic pretty well. Lives are more important than jobs.

  49. I don't believe Germany can replace that much gas with renewables any time soon. Maybe not even for decades. Australia has been rolling out renewables for 20 years - solar and wind farms and roof solar with huge subsidies, yet most of our energy still comes from coal and gas. The energy density is just not there.

  60.  @narvuntien  You're correct in the long term but building or not building oil or gas projects is not the main driver. It's about demand. There is a base level of energy consumption that must be met by fossil fuels until renewable sources catch up and that will likely take decades. Imagine how long it will take to replace gasoline in vehicles. It will take decades for at least two reasons... it takes a long time to build them and most people can't afford them. Similar problems for power generation. We use a lot of coal because other options are not plentuful. I hate the coal but the alternative is black outs.

  62. Yeah, I worked in an office where everyone wanted to wear summer clothing in winter, so they overheated the office. Same in shopping centres. Everything is overheated. We even have outdoor heating. It's ridiculous.

  65. Would those consequences be worse than a European war or even a world war? Because that's where we're heading if Russia isn't stopped without military escalation. If the flighting spreads into NATO territories or directly involves NATO military action then all bets are off.
