@terrydaktyllus1320 You made some good points then spoiled it by writing "they start whining on about "I don't want to use the terminal"". Too right. I don't want to use a terminal either. And referring to "learning to use Linux properly" in the context of using terminals... this is a major factor in why Linux is languishing at around the 4% to 5% level as a desktop option. Terminals are past their use by date or should be for 99% of activity. The year is 2024, not 1984. And outside of DOS, I wasn't even using a terminal in 1984.

@skytale35 I thought the whole point of computers was to automate stuff? Seems hard core Linux fans believe the opposite.... just find the hardest way possible and stick with it. There are reasons why Windows is very popular... one is that it's easier to use than Linux. Whether it's better or worse is a whole different topic. But it is easier to use, and it has a more polished and consistent GUI and cross version compatibility than Linux. I'm mainly a Windows user and a Windows software developer. I tried Linux a few times over the years but found it disappointing. I also encountered no end of problems getting it to install and run, but that's just my take on it. Yours is clearly different.

@donaldmickunas8552 Great points for those few people who work with servers but it's a massive negative for attracting Windows desktop users over and growing the Linux user base.

You got that right. I don't ever want to use a terminal. 99.999% of all functionality should be available in the GUI. I'm a Windows user. I use Windows Explorer for navigating the file system. I have a 32" 4K monitor. Plenty of GUI space. No need to poke around in terminals. This is 2024.

"I've got a terminal open" LOL, who would have thought. Less than a minute in, and we're already in a terminal. And Linux folk want to convert Windows users...
