I've never owned any hardware that lasted 15 years. But even if it did last, it wouldn't be very performant by today's standards. We're talking about the early Intel Core CPUs? My 3-year-old PC runs Windows 11 like a charm and it's damn fast. I'm happy with that. That said, I never liked Linux. Always found it too difficult to install (unlike Windows). And after getting an IT guy to install it for me, I tried it for a few months and switched back to Windows. Linux isn't suitable for the masses, at least not as a desktop solution. It's a niche hobbyist thing.

Linux app installer hell is something I never want to deal with ever again. I prefer the consistency of Windows MSIs. As a developer, I create Windows MSI installers. I want an icon to run, and I want an icon or shortcut somewhere for uninstalling. I don't want to have to memorise a bunch of terminal commands. We're in the age of GUIs and have been for 30+ years. Linux is still relatively archaic.

Apps crash on my Android phone multiple times a day. The YouTube app is shockingly unstable. Never have any problems with Windows drivers, though. Nor have I ever had to reinstall Windows.

Spent 3 days trying to get Linux working vs. 30 minutes for Windows 10. The Linux world needs to lift its game if it wants to lift is market share on the desktop. I use MS Visual Studio. Linux has nothing to match it. That in itself is a nonstarter for me.

For me, it's C++ software development. I've been using MS Visual Studio on Windows for 28 years. Linux doesn't have anything close. VS Code is nowhere close.

The spyware thing is over hyped scaremongering by Windows haters.

GIMP is pretty good. I use the Windows version, but I gave up on it because the GUI is appallingly unintuative. The GUI needs a complete redesign. Whether it's the same on Linux, I have no idea. I don't use it, nor do I like Linux.

Bill Gates stould down from MS 20 years ago and set up their philanthrotropic foundation. He doesn't sell OS's. So, please explain how he's a conman? Let's see whether you're a guinine commenter or a clueless troll. And also please tell us which charities you support.

Yeah, I don't care about the ai or spyware hype and scaremongering. I'm a nobody. There are hundreds of millions of Windows users. It's not like anyone really cares about me and what I use my PC for. I use virus and malware protection and a vpn as basic common sense, and that's it.

Your "spyware" scaremongering (even if unintentional) is effectively a strawman. Windows isn't going to be sending thousands of screenshots to Redmond. You made a good point about the distros. I've always said there needs to be a better distro instead of more distros. Make it less. Abandon 90% of them and focus on improvements to the rest. Decide on one way to instal software and eliminate chaos, etc. Eventually, Linux might catch up with Windows.

Most people don't care. I've turned off telemetry because I could, and it was easy, but that's it. I don't give a toss about extra software. Who would? I still have 600GB free on my SSD with everything installed, including my own stuff and all the software dev tools I use. Why are Linux folk so triggered by extra applications? I use them or not. Makes no difference.
