Yeah, I would agree. The Mac is way better than Linux. Even Windows is.
2
Great way of putting it. Yes, it's one of those "worst of both worlds" languages.

After watching this I know web dev is not for me.

Linux IS the problem. Linux requires a LOT of tinkering to make it work. In fact, tinkering is a Linux selling point, right? That's what the fans tell me.

@Patmorgan235Us For me, old is when I started building and programming computers... mid 1970s. 8bit 1Mhz clock 4KB RAM no cache, hand coded in hex, no assembler, etc. But one could go a lot further back in time but the technology was barely available to hobbyists, and it was unaffordable.
2
OS X is a really common way to say it. In fact, I rarely hear anyone calling it OS 10. Perhaps it depends on where you live. It has always been OS X.

@chriss3404 Another person talking about a "daily driver" wtf. Is this some kind of Linux jargon?
1
@chriss3404 Sorry for being late but thanks. I'd never heard that term until watching a few Linux topic videos. What I've noticed is how Linux users are so strong on how "Linux is the best". I tried it and hated it. I struggle to understand in what way it is the best. I've tried macs and found them to be pretty nice, but I'm not a mac user right now. We had to use Linux systems for work. It was awful. Main problem was instability and losing work due to crashes. Linux and its software just wasn't as polished. We reverted to Windows after a few months. Maybe just a one-off. I did try to install Linux on an old PC prior to that experience but it never worked. There seems to be a lot of pain in switching. So, it puzzles me.

I gave up on Linux.

Linux is NOT designed for normal people. That's why it's unpopular. Windows and Mac are for normal people. Linux is by developers for developers.
1
I was going to say that but you said it better. Yeah, Linux fans triggered.
1
@duckner Both Linux desktop and Android suck in my opinion. Sadly, I have to use Android because it's cheap. But it sucks. The UI is a brain-dead stupid design.

You sound like a sane person. I'm not a Python developer. I use C++ 99% of the time, and I use MS Visual Studio because I love IDEs. It's a damn good option for C, C++, C# etc. Windows. That said, I took a look at RStudio and I must say it looks quite impressive.

@avexxed6624 It can be faster in some specific cases and if one works hard enough at it, but on balance there's not much in it. I can write faster C++ code than I can Rust code. My experience with building and testing some benchmarks... Rust takes 10X longer to code but only runs at around 90% as fast as C++. So, it's not as clear cut as people claim. In a lot of cases, the Rust and C++ compilers are using the same LLVM backend. There won't be a whole lot of difference in optimised performance, and there isn't.
1
Can you back up that insult with facts, or are you just talking out of your ass?
1
Why? I fell in love with C++. You have a problem with that? And I'm not gay.
1
Why is that a "funfact"? I don't see any fun in knowing that, nor do I see any point in being told that.

Rust has many selling points, but it's still a dog awful language to actually learn and use. It just is. That said, if we're comparing Rust with JS, then we're in a spot of bother because JS is also a dog awfull language.

I have an extreme dislike for coding with text editors. The main reason I stay on Windows is because Linux has nothing that comes close to MS Visual Studio. Even VS Code feels primitive by comparison. Relying on terminals and text editors in 2025 is a showstopper for me. I left that archaic nonsense behind in the 1980s. It puzzles me why anyone would still use something like e.g. vim?
1
As opposed to the Linux cult? I would choose Apple over Linux any day. But I don't have to because I'm a Windows software developer, and changing would make no sense. Windows market share: 72%, OS X: 15%, Linux desktop distros: 4.5%
1
Not really.
1
You sound like a kid who's just been told his toy truck sucks. Calm down.
1
Both lanuages are dog awful in their own ways.
1
Mac is the nicest most polished OS. Windows is the best allrounder. Linux is not best at either. I have degrees in Computer Science and Mathematics and 28 years software development.
1
@Jason-ot6jv It kind of makes sense to me. If Linux offers no real advantage and the community is toxic, especially when one needs help from said community, then yeah, ditch it.
