That's why I by Toyotas. All I want is a basic car that goes from A to B reliably without mortgaging the house.

Looks great though full of unnecessary gimmicky extras. I wouldn't consider buying any electric car anything soon for the simple reason that they're unaffordable. They're still way too expensive in Australia. Who can pay $60,000 for a car? What we need is something basic and reliable for less than $20,000. That said, a lot of people like me only buy used vehicles. When can I buy a used electric vehicle for $10,000? That's when electric will beat ICE.

So I'll be able to buy a new EV for $20k or a good used EV for $10k by 2030? That's what it with take in my opinion buy I don't believe that's possible. All you'd get for $10k is the battery. I'm not against EVs, I want one but the cost profile for EVs is all wrong.

@gregb1599 It's easy to bash companies but remember, they only exist because people want their products. There hasn't been and still isn't a viable mass market alternate to ICE vehicles. EVs are for the wealthy. Will that ever change?

How would that work in practice given that batteries are huge and built into the floorpan? Would it really like the little demo? The idea seems a bit clunky at best.

I must also be old. That's what I payed for my first house. I live in Australia where I've never payed more than $10k for a car... $60k AUD isn't going to happen.

@simonbrooks6073 I doubt a locally made EV could ever compete on price vs features.

@christianhadden6720 I agree with Roy. I wouldn't want to swap batteries, wheels or anything else. And he is correct. If there's no charged batteries available then what? Wait for the next delivery?

Legacy auto manufacturers won't be gone any time soon.

They're too expensive. Bottom line. Why promote an overpriced product that most people don't want or can't afford? When I can buy a used EV with a good battery and decent range for less than $15000 is when I will buy one. I suspect the majority feel the same. And most people don't buy new cars.

Not much with happen as long as EVs continue to be priced as luxury cars. There is simply no way I could ever own one at current prices or even at half current prices

Why should it be the government's responsibility to install chargers? Do government's sell petrol? A government's job is to govern and not much else. Who installed the Tesla chargers? Governments? Personally, I think the car manufacturers should all play a role in a similar way banks did with cash machines.
