@maartenofbelgium Why not switch to Windows 11. I did. It's free and it's better than 10... assuming your PC hardware is less than 7 years or so old.

Why is that great? Why does exposing people to Linux matter?

@davidebalsano6741 16GB of ram is pretty normal. It's about the sweet spot in terms of price per GB.

@OutLanderUSN Nicer in what way? Real ways, or Linux fanboy propaganda ways? I might have worded that in a strange way, but I think you'll get what I mean.

That's not true. Linux is still about as useless for most people as it was 5 years ago. Windows 10 was better than 8/8.1. Windows 11 is better than 10. Yes, Linux might be getting better because the basics that weren't working at all 5 years ago are working now... but that's setting a very low bar.

@LeoTiger12 I haven't seen any ads, and I've turned off as many "telemetry" settings as I could, simply because I could. Other than that, I don't give a toss. Every organisation, corporate, or service provider collects information about their customers. The type of stuff being collected by MS doesn't concern me. It's being overly hyped by scaremongers. It's definitely not going to motivate me to abandon Windows, suffer the pain of switching and thereby not be able to work. Google concerns me more than MS.

I would agree. Anyone who thinks Linux as a desktop option will ever catch up to Windows is deluding themselves. I wish Linux was a viable alternative, but it wasn't 15 years ago, and it wasn't 10 years ago when we tried it, and it still isn't. Linux folk, please let me know when Linux has a credible replacement for MS Visual Studio. That's already a deal breaker for me. VSCode doesn't come close, nor does Eclipse.

Why is OBS so damn difficult to use?

Yeah, a 2% increase is huge... NOT. Sorry for being a smart ass, but seriously, 4% is pathetic given that Linux is free and has been around for as long as Windows. Windows 11 is already past 20% in 3 years and will double over the next 3. Even Mac is somewhere around 9%

Arch is reportedly one of the most difficult distros for new users.

Did you find one?

Do you expect every car driver to be able to fix their engine? Computers are way more complex than cars. Fact is, computers, like cars and vacuum cleaners and refrigerators and televisions... they're all appliances. The wild west of computer geekery (which I was part of in the 70s and 80s) is long over. People need a system that is easy to use and unlikely to require geek help over its lifetime else they'd have to pay an IT expert $$$. I'm in that same boat now. I don't want to be wasting my time hacking around. Been there, done that. I'm too old. Some people are too busy, other lack the ability or desire. Whatever it is, Linux needs to lift its game if it is to become a credible desktop alternative to Windows or Mac.

@user-xb2jx9zx1k Analysed by AI? Who would do that? AI is not an intelligence, nor is it creative, nor would it understand what being human is like. It's a bunch of deterministic algorithms and maths, fed on a pile of training data. Garbage in, garbage out is still a thing. It can only be as good as the data it sees and the developers who designed it.

@DavideDavini People use Windows because it enables then to do their job or complete their projects etc. I choose to use Windows because for me, it does what I need better. It is not "utter crap". I tried Linux a few times, and when I did, I described it as utter crap. Was forced to use it for a year for work to reduce costs. That didn't last long. Was like a toy OS and unstable with it. Primitive when compared to Windows at that time.
