  1. 3:03 American interviewers, like this one, tend to speak of the European Union (EU) as if it is a country. It is not. It has 27 member sovereign countries and it has 27 opinions about Israel and everything else under the sun. The difference between Spain, where I live, and Germany which make up two EU states are very different in their approach to the Israelis. Spain recognizes the State of Palestine, Germany does not. Spain refuses all licenses to export arms to Israel while Germany is second only to the USA as a supplier of weapons to the Israelis. Spain refuses Maersk ships carrying weapons to Israel to use Spanish ports while Germany loads arms for Israelis at Hamburg. Ireland recognizes the State of Palestine while France does not although they are both EU member states. Ireland has joined South Africa's case against Israel at the International Court of Justice, France has not. There is no diplomatic contact between Norway and Israel as the Israelis have withdrawn their ambassador from Norway, Italy still has an Israeli ambassador in Rome. Yet both are EU member states. In summary, American interviewers need to learn that the EU is not a country and it does not have a single foreign policy regarding current affairs.
