It is quite astonishing that the English had the gall to give most of Palestine to Central and Eastern European Ashkenazi Jews and how the small nascent United Nations, as yet unrepresentative of most people in the world, many of whom were under the imperial authority of the English and other western colonial countries, was called upon to vote on the proposal set out in the Balfour Declaration of 1917 when Palestine was ruled the Ottoman Empire. To treat the indigenous Palestinian Arabs with such utter disregard was a moral failure of the first major test of the new United Nations. Ever since, we have lived with the consequence of this continuing failure.
