  1. LOVE reviving the legacy gear! You recently inspired me to install Linux on a few old 2006-2008 MacBooks as gifts for friends and they are all loving the Minty Mate freshness! (*only issue was getting the right wifi driver installed, but that was relatively easy). This vidi inspired me to dig out the 2007 iPod Touch 1st gen that has been sitting in a drawer for 12 years -- now seeing if it will take a charge (I've got 5 of the Apple proprietary USB cables + an AC charger), but this howto gives me the confidence to change the battery if needed. The iPod belonged to my 30yr life partner who passed in 2012 (f*ck cancer!). She always had quality, eclectic music playing in our home and I'm anxious to recover her iPod collection -- I still have a couple hundred Opera CD sets ((literally) that I need to get back out into the world somehow too... Also, totally agree with OWNING your media and I'll never acquiesce to the streaming service "rental" model controlling my choices, whether video or audio. Been using a cute little ($35) AGPTEK mp3 player in my car for a decade plus, but the iPod should be good fun to play with and have around as another option!
