No, not true, not at all. Italy overreacted and just killed a lot of people, just like they did during the Pestilence. From the start, they hospitalized known exposures and put every suspected case, into ICU. This maxed out their critical care capacity, in a few days and exposed everyone in the healthcare pipeline, generating a mass exposure event and subsequent fatality spike, due to critical resource shortfall. While attempting to avoid the politics, it is unavoidable that this was a failing of state provided healthcare. Meanwhile, the opposite is being criticized in the US, where people are being told to not go to the Dr, or seek testing, unless you have legitimate reason to believe you're infected. Healthcare facilities are infection distribution centers. I was in a top tier trauma ward following an accident. I was told Id be there 2 -3 weeks. On day 3 they were kicking me out, because I had no sign of infection and they didnt want me to get one from the hospital.
It remains to be seen how Italy's incompetent quarantine plays out, but we can assume there will be another fatality spike, because they simply locked everyone in together, with no effort to segregate the infected. Again, just like they and Britain did, during the 15th Century plague epidemic, where they nailed families into their houses.
