Tesla is giving them away because they have cost nothing and no one will pay for them. They are simply ghetto rigging together spare car parts. The units GM is making are actual engineered, tested and approved medical devices. But, feel free to choose a Tesla ventilator for you or a loved one, you know... for the principle.

The burden on GM to shut down production that has been running nonstop for decades, retool, restart and prime production lines for a new product, is astronomically higher, than for Tesla to part together units, from components and systems they were already making for other projects. GM is producing established designs as a contractor, while Tesla, as with every self-aggrandizing Musk venture, is just improvising something out of spare car parts. Though, when you get Red Plague, Im sure you'll choose the Tesla ventilator, cause Elon is totally kewl.

@CSNCSNCSN No, they haven't. Theyve reported asset surplus. That means they have more investment dollars coming in than what they are spending. That is not 'profit'. They are running a shell game with pie in the sky projects that never have a chance. Musk takes investment for these projects, they fail or are shut down and the money and tech is funneled to Tesla and SpaceX.

@danimotherofchickens479 The simple fact is that when you are so bad off, you need a ventilator, your odds of recovery are ~10%. The irony is that the patients getting 80% of the resources and attention will almost all die.

Not even remotely true. Flu season got a slow start, but caught up to projections after the Red Plague mitigation started. Flu transmits by the same vectors, but at a much lower rate and has still outpaced Coronervirus. So, A) has mitigation actually been effective and B) which variables are invalid? Clearly one or more of the variables have been grossly misestimated. Either its not nearly as infectious as believed, or there is a massive unseen infection and the mortality is dramatically lower than believed.

@TheWebAdict Yeah, get put on a ventilator and then say the hospital paid too much. The cost is for the decades of engineering and rigirous testing to make sure it doesn't fail, while the nurse is on a coffee break.
