They may look like a 9x19, but the nominal case diameter is smaller, the rim and head dimensions are substantially different and would not function in an autoloader.
That said, when I saw the 'homemade bullet', I pulled my manuals, dies, micrometer, empties and did quite a bit of research... and found zero referrences to anyone converting a 38/357 case, to 9x19. I suppose its technically possible, but why? Id think it easier to find a 9x19 empty, than to convert a 357. Plus, I would really think that reloading skill/knowledge would be significantly more common among the sort of people to have survived a zombie apocalypse, than even a random sampling of common Americans, now; and Id bet that at least 1 in 100 shooters in my area, have done some handloading. Plus, the equipment is common as dirt.
Now then, an even curiouser mystery, is where he got the powder?
