I do think there should be a basic sustenance for everyone, simply because theres nowhere you can go to opt-out of disproportionate governance. So long as the gvt has the authority and control it has over EVERYTHING you do, it has a fundamental obligation, that its not at this time, attending. Im not talking about free money, but one way to solve several problems is an allotment of fresh produce for every American. Healthy food is prohibitively expensive for most people to consume as staple, meanwhile (Im from a farming community and do understand how and why subsidies work and are necessary) crops are turned under and farms are paid to not produce, because of artificial surplus. That is to say, its not commercially viable to transport and distribute at the prices people are able or willing to pay at the register. This is a place where the gvt could get involved and spend some money that it wastes elsewhere on far less effective programs - maybe get the military to provide some transport, instead of driving around the reservation til empty, refuel and repeat to expend surplus fuel, or having soldiers count their screwdrivers 50 times, so theyre not getting paid to take up space(yeah, been there, done that... and done it again). Providing everyone with fresh(ish) produce for every meal, would go a long way to reducing healthcare costs, for instance. So where better to spend that money; in lifetime treatment, or early prevention?
