  1. 'Troposcatter' is a technique, not a technology. It was made obsolete, by countermeasures and new comms technologies. I think what we are talking about is a new secure communication technology, that makes the technique useful again.

  3. Dependency on satellites is overestimated. The Army, Navy and Chair Force all have field deployable short duration sat systems. They can replace comms and targeting satellites, faster than they can be destroyed. They just dont have the orbital stability of primary launch satellites and have to be frequently replaced.

  4.  @ikm64  EMP was a problem a couple decades ago, but due to spectrum saturation, even cheap mp3 players are heavily shielded and practically invulnerable to EMP. Such weapons are useful tactically, to temporarily disrupt electronic equipment, but modern electronics dont suffer the way they used.

  5.  @ikm64  Russia's military, is still in every way, governed the way it was under Communism. Its highly political and corrupt, focusing mainly upon sensational demonstrations to impress old men who know little to nothing about warfare. Indeed, a standup fight with Russia would be costly, but much of their capability is 'threat display', like how a nonvenomous snake flattens its neck and shakes its tail. The competitive systems they do have, are seriously deficient in numbers and production capacity. At one time, they had superior numbers of 'good enough' equipment, as to give challenge to Western advanced systems. But, that paradigm has shifted.
