  3. Thats simply a feature of animation. They didn't 'know' anything, they just animated everything clean and square and straight and mechanical. It would've actually been way harder to animate a realistic human archer.

  9. Not drones. Drones, as everyone understands them, are a nuisance. The 'apex predator' is the Lancet. Everything the Switchblade/Excalibur/Javelin/GLSDB/etc failed to be and more. Its accurate, its long range, its deadly, its easy and its cheap. They just started fielding the improved generation and a new even more capable variant is due for deployment mid to late summer.

Its often conflated wuth 'Cowboy Action', which is as real as any other competitive shooting sport, just with period design weapons. In some ways its far more impressive, with people running single actions as fast as a solid B Class IDPA shooter. But 'quickdraw' isnt even a shooting sport, its a carnival game. Still... everytime I hear 'cowboy action', I just think of Brokeback Mountain 😐

But yeah, most incapacitations are psychological; the 'FIBS'(F*ck, Ive been shot!') effect. But, two rounds center mass at close contact like that, certainly could've clipped the spine. Yes, its realistic. It would've been realistic if they hadn't, as well.

  20. Shes not. They don't use live ammo for that type of shooting. Its either balls of black pepper, or wax pellets that come out in a cloud to hit a balloon or a sensor on the target. As Joe Rogan would say, 'fake... as... fuk'

In the opening of Thief, James Caan is for real cracking a safe. For Collateral, he made Tom Cruise work as a UPS driver, until he could deliver packages without being recognized. On Miami Vice, they put Colin Farrell in what he thought anyway, was a real drug sting gone bad... and dude crushed it.

  29. In the opening of Thief, he is really cracking a rea safe. Michael Mann is a bit of a pioneer in technical realism. His philosophy is that an actor should be able to do what his character is doing. One of my favorites, is that fir Collateral, he made Tom Cruise get a job as a delivery man and deliver packages until he could do it without being recognized.

Competition can be useful, but once you go down the road of 'competing', you start playing the rules, cutting corners to shave .1sec and learn really bad habits, like counting on stage walkthroughs, and just satisfying the use of cover rules. I do occasional IDPA and while I always qualify in the top ⅓, I almost always finish in the bottom ⅓ and usually the bottom ¼. Mainly because I use cover like I would in real life and only spend the minimum time on stage prep. Then, theres the guy awhile back that was home from the sandbox and was making breakfast in a dark kitchen at 4am, when three guys kicked his front door. He ran out the backdoor, grabbed a .380 out of his car, went back in the front door and smoked two them.

Standing about armlength apart, Jim Courtright went for his gun and then Luke Short pulled and emptied his gun into him, before he could get a shot off. Courtright was running a protection racket and Short told him he didn't need protection 🤷

The most memorable part for me was the scenes from First Strike cut into it, going back and forth between the news casts saying that both sides were talking to deescalate and resolve the situation.

So called, because his finger is already holding the trigger down and he just snaps the hammer with his thumb (like 'fanning'); if your timing or grip, or wrist strength is a little off, the recoil will rock the gun back and drive the hammer spur into the knuckle and 'bust your thumb'.

  99. Sigh... here we go again. The Leopard and Abrams both eject the turret and probably the Challenger as well. They're just so heavy they remain on top of the chassis. As seen in Syria with the Leopard 2, the issue is not a 'design flaw', its simply a matter of the ammunition type. If a magazine full of HE gets penetrated, its going up like Nagasaki no matter what kind of 'blowout' protection it has. The protection only applies to propellant burn, with kinetic rounds. The reason the tanks in Ukraine keep going up, is because theyre all loaded to the gills with HE ammo, because they're fighting soft skinned, light armored vehicles, dismounts and fighting positions; not other tanks. Theres plenty of videos of Russian tanks carrying kinetic rounds, taking critical hits and not exploding.

Desert Storm is an illusion and you people really need to end your victory lap for it. I was there - 513th MI-BDE/297th MI-BN. I performed ISR/RSTA; BDA and Combat Assessment. I worked on the operational planning for the 'Left Hook', air defense and geo mapping for F117 strikes and onsite BDA for PGMs, after the ceasefire. The 'mechanized army' you're talking about was junk. They didn't invade Kuwait for resources because they were strong and doing swell. 40% of the armor we wrecked was non deployable by US Army standards. They had broken hydraulics, faulty electrical, worn out engines and drivetrains, low or no fuel and ammo. Their air defenses were in the same condition. They were popping antipersonnel canister shot 3 or 4 times its effective antipersonnel range, at Challengers because they didn't have any anti armor ammo. They rolled until they ran out of gas, fired the few rounds they had and abandoned their vehicle to get banged by an Apache or A10. They had a large number of their tanks parked on berms as artillery pieces, because they were immobile and or couldn't operate the turrets. Entire companies surrendered for a MRE and a bottle of water. We processed hundreds of prisoners with uniforms literally rotting off their bodies like castaways. We didn't win in Korea and lost in Vietnam. China and India throw rocks at each other on the border, but sure, Indians throw rocks better so that will certainly be an advantage when China opens up with artillery from the mountains and sends 1000s of drones. You should really pay attention to US aircraft absentee ratios before talking about other air forces. China's 'blue water navy' is better than it needs to be. They aren't trying to threaten every nation on the planet with it, only secure their own. And you have apparently not been paying any attention, China has the most powerful ships ever conceived, that can cripple your country at anchor in port. FA with China and youll FO what real sanctions are and how they work when you're begging for them to invade in 3 months, just to bring you stuff. Want a preview of war with China? Go round your house and gather up everything with a made in China component or material and throw it in the trash. Just be careful not to accidentally divide by zero trying to throw your Chinese trashcan into your Chinese trashcan. We spent 6 months assembling a million man NATO+ army on Iraq's doorstep to kick 100k starving, ill equipped Iraqis out of Kuwait, that tried to run away when it got loud. You people really need to quit thinking thats something to thump your chest about. That hubris is what directly led to the disasters in Iraq and Afghanistan. None of you are learning anything from Ukraine either, because you're too high on the p r o p a g a n d a.
