I'll add commonplace fratricide, death squads hunting fellow Ukrainians as 'spies' and 'traitors' and wanton warcrimes by people for whom just killing Russians, isn't quite as satisfying as they anticipated. Most of these Western volunteers are watching the 'news', seeing how stupid and incompetent Russia is, how bad they're getting their ass kicked and how badfuckingass little old Ukrainian grannies are, chasing tank columns back to Russia with molotov cocktails and think they're going to go on safari and bag some trophies. They get there and find a horror show worse than any post-apocalypse film they've seen. Above all else, the aspect that can't be even imagined, no matter how many war movies or slasher flicks they've watched, is the odor of war.
