He referred to the Civil Rights act, as the 'n*gg3r bill', said it would make 'those uppity negros' impossible to deal with and that he would have them 'voting Democrat, for the next 200 years'. He also allegedly had a propensity for whipping it out and showing it people, who didn't want to see it.

The difference, between what is happening now and the racial equality events and movements of the past, is that the past has been about moving forward; where what is happening now, is about going backward, to apply current moral values, to history. We are seeing this 'progress' in real-time, as the moral superiors of weeks ago, get cancelled by the new moral standards, of this week. At best, its extremely naive, ignorant and foolish. More probably, its purposefully disingenuous, deceitful and profoundly abusive. These monuments, base/camp names, memorials and statues, were erected in spirit of reconciliation, to reunite the states and its people. The Civil War, as most people aren't even taught anymore, was not a 'North v South' conflict, it was brother v brother, sitting next to each other at the kitchen table. The 'North and South' simply being separate corners to go to. Lincoln had to impose conditions and restrictions on Northern states, that rival some of the worst dictatorships you can name, to keep the North 'pure'; including literally crushing the free press(routinely had newspapers shut down and their presses smashed) and politically imprisoning elected Representatives and dissenters. Now just imagine Trump having Federal troops raid CNN, dragging journalists away to the gulag and smashing all their equipment. Lest everyone forget, the soldiers and leaders of the Confederacy were pardoned by Lincoln and Johnson, so in fact, they are all honored veterans .
