But its irrelevant, because the Republican party is an open party, with open primaries, that allows anyone to run on their platform and allow the voters to decide. If Comrade Bernie had enough constituents, he could get elected as a Republican, just like a NYC Liberal did. Lack of a 'party' isn't the issue, its that America doesn't want what you're selling.
