This is historical and historically, denotative Vandalism; from the Vandal peoples, who wantonly despoiled art, and cultural icons and destroyed the records and literature of their victims, to erase them as a people. Their destruction of Rome, led directly to what we know as the Dark Ages; a 'reboot' of Western Civilization. This same destruction of cultural icons and institutions, in the orgy of anarchy following the French Revolution, shortly preceded the deconstruction of the revolutionaries, one neck at time, to the cheers and howls of the vulgar mob.
