@7.62mikemike3 Im going out on a limb and saying most negative opinions about the AK, are in comparison to every other common service rifle. The AK is not a good gun. It is the embodiment of the Communist philosophic ethic. Its design being carefully engineered with loose tolerances to make it reliable in many environments, is 100% Soviet propaganda. It was a very poor knockoff of the stg44; its loose tolerances are because Communist production was so poor, they couldnt get parts from different lots, from the same factory, to work together. Its unreliable and inaccurate. Granted you can abuse the Hell out of it and it wont really get any worse, but the same can be said for pounding a turd.

@7.62mikemike3 If it makes you feel any better, Id take a AK over a L85. I wouldn't feel naked with a AK and would handle my business with one, but I certainly wouldnt choose one out of a lineup. The Communist issue, is that the gun does know the difference. Communism isnt just a political philosophy, its a production standard and design values. EVERYTHING must espouse Communism, from concept to production to tactical doctrine. You wouldnt use a blanket made by smallpox carriers; Communism is just like that.

@Kevin-fj5oe What part of crude knockoff are you people failing to comprehend? I most certainly did not say its the same rifle, I said its an incompetent attempt to copy it. Which is a historical fact, not an opinion. And no , looser tolerances means it was designed around incompetent production and is prone to parts jamming and failing. If you'd seen how many jammed rifles were picked up after shooting the user out from under it, you probably wouldn't think it was all that awesome. Really, WTF, nobody designs a rifle to intentionally allow ingress of debris. No one competent, anyway. That's typical Soviet propaganda; claiming the failures of Communism as a brilliant, new and better way to do things. And no the AK74 is not anymore similar or comparable to an AR, than is the AK47. Oh, well, the knockoff cartridge is kinda similar.

@DevilDaRebel Yeah, most popular. Thanks for the chuckle, its been a miserable morning, here. No, its ubiquitous, not popular. Communism, is the answer youre looking for. Communism, is why there are so many AKs - they're like the lesions from small pox. Everyone who thought they could just make a 'good' AK wasted money and lives, before trying to copy the M16, or G3. The only reason anyone uses the AK, is because they can't make or can't afford something better.

'Buily to exceed in rough conditions' is a prime example of the typical propaganda around it, to rationalize the sloppy manufacture. The reality is that sloppy manufacture is precisely why it fails in those 'tough conditions', as per countless realworld results and numerous reliability tests; tests which other rifles pass and AK fanboys make excuses for their pet rifle's falling on its ass. Again, on case you arent understanding, Ive personally participated in and seen enough of them picked up off people got fucking killed, because their weapon failed. So, go ahead regurgitate some more propaganda at me about how gooood it works on the youtube videos you've watched. You know, when it was made right and had the right aftermarket parts and when it was maintained properly and when it had the right ammo and when it was new and after it was hand finished and and and but, but, but...

Theres the rub. When you consider classes of build, not just dollar value, the AK is junk. That is, compare the best possible AK build, with an off the rack AR. Of course the AR is the pinnacle of small arms engineering, so maybe compare it with a FAL, or something...

They tried to back-engineer a stg44 and couldnt make it work with their atrocious engineering and manufacturing, so they dumbed it down... way down. Its almost as if you dont know anything about history or weapon development.

@DevilDaRebel Uh, yeah, derived, as in tried to copy it, but couldn't make it work, because of shitty manufacturing and engineering; turning it into what it became - the proud symbol of Communist imperialism. Theres no two ways around it, bro. The AK is a poor copy of the 44, that got worse and worse, as Soviet Communism crumbled. 'It works' is Soviet propaganda. I guarantee I have more than enough experience with the platform, to judge it objectively and its junk. Its not the worst POS on the battlefield, but its in the bottom 5.

@UKFirearmsandAirguns Yes Im familiar with the SA80/L8x series. It is a terrible rifle; perhaps the worst modern service rifle in use. Accuracy is t the issue, its the reliability and handling characteristics, that are the problem. Bullpups in general are problematic, but the SA is particularly bad. Theres a reason everyone's SF are using the M4 and the Royal Marines have been using the M16.

@georgekaradov1274 Every Western and numerous south American militaries have M16 or M4 variants in service. Both South Korea and Japan use 'AR' derived rifles. Basically anyone aligned with the US is using a Stoner system in some capacity, while everyone aligned with Russia uses an AK system.
