Indeed. Unconditionally supporting rebels because they oppose someone we don't like, is precisely where ISIS came from. People need to get their heads around the reality that the Kurds are not our allies, or our friends, they are our partners. They do not share Western values or adhere to Western standards of conduct. They rape, pillage and massacre, just like the people we are fighting and we turn a blind eye. If Israelis conducted themselves the way the Kurds do, the UN would intervene and every Democrat in the country would be screaming about warcrimes. They are a liability. The Kurdish militias are not fighting anyone for us, they are fighting for their own interests. They've injected themselves into every Middle East conflict of the past 50 years, in an attempt to capture and hold territory for their own state aspirations. When our common enemies are defeated, we'll end up fighting them.
Then, there is the cognitive dissonance of supporting Middle Eastern rebels, against a NATO ally. Orange Man is the worst, because he doesn't support NATO allies. Orange Man is also the worst, because he doesn't support NATO allies' enemies. Im down with argument that Turkey should not be in NATO, but it is and that makes them an actual ally, with which we have a mutual defense pact that obliges us to fucking nuke someone for them. Our relationship with them is the priority.
