Modern games sell hardware (reaching into you wallet) with incrementally 'better' graphics than last year's version and progressively less challenging, or engaging gameplay. This is why games have orders of magnitude better copy protection than 10s of thousands dollar engneering and A/V production softwares - they have to sell as many as possible in the 3 weeks from release, until everyone over 5 has beaten it.
