  1. We'll know when its convenient to claim a victory. It wont be 'The Counteroffensive' unless and until there's something to show for it... despite its having been in action for almost a month. Right now, they're still trying to pull the same thing they did last time, but they had better get a new plan really quick. Last time Russia was outnumbered more than 3:1 and had no defensive works in-theatre. Now they have a ~1.2:1 advantage, a significant reserve and multiple phases of defenses built up through the whole Donbas. Ukraine simply doesn't have the combat power to sustain a large scale offensive and once they show their hand, will have to quickly commit the bulk of their forces to an objective. Russia is going to fall back to their defensive positions on contact and let Ukraine punch itself out and firce them to commit somewhere.
