Russia can negotiate a withdrawal back to the current lines and establish a DMZ out of their held territory, between. I would wager that Putin would be willing to negotiate most of Russia's held territory to a DMZ between Donbas and Ukraine, as long as the Ukrainian Army couldn't threaten Donbas.
