  1. The original concept of Indulgence, made sense. A King is responsible not only for his own soul, but the souls of all his subjects. The moral and spiritual debt, for a war for example, is simply too much for one man to make account. Indulgence was not a purchase, but a commission for monks to pray. So, you might give a sum to the Church and monasteries would be directed to dedicate a certain portion of prayer for you. It was not a simple transaction. Or, at least it was never intended to be.
