  3.  H-town281 A  'Exponential growth' modeling is based on unmitigated progression. Its a terror tactic of the media and entities milking the situation for budget increases. All the 'exponential' curves everyone is talking about, assume unchecked spread and no attempts at containment or treatment. Even with no active intervention, the growth will self-regulate as it encounters resistance and mutation. The virus doesn't 'want' to disable its host, it wants a host healthy enough to spread it. Thus, why most viruses mutate into milder strains, not worse.
