Fever and dehydration are the most common cause of death with ebola, the bleeding from every orifice being a Hollywood myth. That symptom is the final, acute stage of one or two rare strains, but patients rarely make it to that stage, either recovering with good care, or expiring of other complications. This is partly why some locals don't think its real; because they're told about it, but have never seen it.

  4. A couple problems are that early symptoms are mild and common to a myriad of common conditions. By the time symptoms are troubling, the patient has been virulent for several days. The converse is clinics being choked with sniffles and tummy aches, delaying the cotrol of actual vectors. Add to that an incubation of 10 days, to a month.
