A reliable gun, should go several hundred rounds, between cleanings, with no problems. I do keep my carry gun clean, but most of my guns don't get cleaned, until they start getting a little sluggish. Typically when I get a new gun, I don't clean it, until I cant get through a mag, without a malfunction. Then, I detail strip it, look for wear and fouling buildup and try to determine the trouble areas. Typically, an occasional swab through the chamber and bore, can get a decent pistol through 1000 rounds or more, without 'cleaning'. ARs can be a little more quirky and more dependent on how long it sits, than how long between cleanings. That is, get it hot and put it away dirty, tomorrow it works fine, but next week, the bolt is stuck. This can happen with even a freshly cleaned rifle. I never let an AR sit more than a few days, without running the action, no matter how clean it is; and if its going into storage, I pull the BCG.

Believe me, Im no Glock fanboy. But, the rapid auto-disassembly problem, was a direct result of one of the main reasons I have a grudge against Glock. S&W was developing the Sigma and .40S&W in tandem, as a LE package to meet the new FBI handgun performance standard. Through corporate espionage, Glock stole some fired cases from Winchester and back-engineered their own .40 to scoop S&W. They secretly developed a .40 chambered Glock, based on the G17 and then sued S&W for patent infringement, to suppress the Sigma, until after the FBI made its selection. Problem is, they developed their chamber, for a shortened 10mm case, which had a heavier base than the commercial Winchester cartridge. Thus, they did not reinforce the chamber in a couple of key areas, allowing the commercial case heads to blow out. This is why they blew up and also why Glock identifies their chamber as '.40 cal' and not '.40 S&W'... because they're still afraid S&W and Winchester will (rightfully so) take them to the cleaners.
TL;DR
Technically, it was an ammo issue, I guess 🙄 But, they fixed that problem a long time ago, while deftly managing to never acknowledge there ever was a problem. And no, I would not fire an early .40 cal Glock.
